Beat the Heat
It was a pleasure seeing all of you who were down at the CPA Annual Meeting in Fort Myers. I chose this tip to lead us off because we all experienced this issue down there, and the rest of us will experience it in the coming months. With the “dog days” of summer quickly approaching, here are a few friendly tips when heading to the golf course in the middle of the summer heat.
· Try to make tee times earlier or later in the day. Avoid playing while the sun is in its peak in the sky.
· Wear proper sun protection. Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses can go a long ways in protecting your skin against the sun.
· Wear light colors. Try to avoid black’s and navy’s.
· Drink plenty of fluids before, during, and after your rounds. Stick to water and sports drinks. Avoid and soda!
· Take your time. No need to overdo it while on the golf course. If groups are behind you, just step aside and let them play through.
· Pack three or four extra gloves in your bag. It is real easy to sweat through the first one.
· Worse case, plan for a different day. Reschedule your tee time for a day when the weather is not an issue.
Playing in the heat can cause a challenge. However, if you plan accordingly there is no reason not to enjoy a round of golf even if the temperatures rise. Just remember, always error on the side of caution!
